We are LKC: Meet Jim Datovech
Visual Electrophysiology for Everyone, Everywhere
Transcript
Hi, I’m Jim Datovech, president of LKC Technologies. It’s a delight for me to meet you today, even through this medium that we’re using. I bought LKC with a business partner 20 years ago this month actually.
Blindness is both personal and professional to me because my son Matthew was born at 26 weeks at 1100 grams. Here’s an image of my wife holding him just a few days after birth. And he just celebrated his 42nd birthday on September the 1st. You can see Matthew getting ready to enjoy a trip to the beach from our beach house. And so you can see he’s living a full life, but he’s totally blind from ROP.
When we looked at visual electrophysiology as a technology, we understand it was tremendously underutilized because it has tremendous utility and a number of diseases that affect the retina and optic nerve. We wanted to find a way to make electrophysiology useful to everyone, everywhere because preserving sight is such a tremendous thing.
Having lived with a blind son for 42 years, I understand the impacts on the families and on the individuals. It’s extremely important that we utilize this technology to its full capability in order to give the physicians the information they need to make better treatment and follow-up decisions. I appreciate the opportunity to speak with you today. And I hope that you can understand why I feel so strongly about electrophysiology and our ability to develop the RETeval® device and have it capable to be used by anyone, to help solve the issue of blindness today and tomorrow. Thank you for this opportunity to speak with you once again. Have a great day!
