New CPT Codes for Visual Electrophysiology Testing in The U.S.
During calendar year 2018 the AMA and the American Academy of Ophthalmology conducted a RUC study of flash and pattern based electroretinogram (ERG) testing and reimbursement.
As a result of this study, as of January 1, 2019, reimbursement and coverage of ERG’s has been maintained via a new CPT code for full-field flash ERG: 92273*.
The old code: 92275 has now split into 3 new codes:
92273: Electroretinography (ERG), with interpretation and report; full field (e.g., ffERG, flash ERG, Ganzfeld ERG)
92274: Electroretinography (ERG), with interpretation and report; multifocal (mfERG)
0509T: Electroretinography (ERG) with interpretation and report; pattern (PERG)
