Dr. Scott Atkinson

Dr. Scott Atkinson is an ophthalmology specialist in Kansas City, MO. He currently practices at Children’s Mercy Hospital – Ophthalmology and has been in practice for more than 20 years.

Dr. Ian M. MacDonald

Dr. Ian M. MacDonald is a Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Alberta, and past Chair. His areas of interest are inherited retinal disorders, in particular, maculopathies and choroideremia. He has done a remarkable work in Canada to foster the development of academic Ophthalmology.

Dr. Robert K. Koenekoop, MD, PhD, 

Dr. Robert K. Koenekoop, MD, PhD, is Director of Pediatric Ophthalmology at the Montreal Children’s Hospital in Montreal, Quebec. His areas of expertise include Lever Congenital Amaurosis, Retinitis Pigmentosa, and other forms of blindness due to photoreceptor death in children. Dr. Koenekoop is a prominent researcher in genetic illnesses causing blindness.

We have been very pleased with the RETeval. It has changed the way that we practice and has allowed us to significantly decrease the amount of EUAs with ERGs we perform. Furthermore, it has resulted in earlier diagnosis of patients with inherited retinal degenerations.

We screen the patient as soon as they walk in the door, and then we test them every year to see what’s going on and see how the function of the retina is changing.

Facing the pandemic of COVID 19 I appreciate the use of RETeval and other portable devices to minimize the patients move to too many rooms, thus hopefully limiting the spread of the diseases.

There is a COVID19 positive little girl on the ward who needs an ERG to help with a possible NCL diagnosis, so that will be my first attempt of an ERG wearing full PPE!

I am using RETeval since about 2 months and in this short time I was able to implement ERG with minimal disruption to clinic. The exams are done by our excellent nurse and she reports that patients are really cooperative.
