Dr. Dara Khalatbari

Dr. Dara Khalatbari

Dr. Khalatbari, or “Dr. K” has been practicing in the Charlotte and Union County areas since 2007. In 2020, he founded Eye Care and Surgeons of Charlotte to be able to provide the best and most personal care to his patients.

Dr. K graduated from Vanderbilt University with a degree in Molecular Biology and Mathematics. He then attended medical school at Duke University. He completed his eye surgery training at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, the oldest eye surgery residency in the country.

Dr. K is board certified and a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive surgeons. Dr. Khalatbari is a contributing author to the Wills Eye Manual, the most widely used eye care book in the world. Because of his experience, knowledge, and personality, he has taken care of many physicians in the area and is considered to be a “doctor’s doctor.”

Dr. Khalatbari lives in South Charlotte with his wife and boy/girl twins. He enjoys traveling, eating out, and soccer. He is fluent in both Spanish and Farsi.

Dr. Igor Kozak MD, PhD, MAS

Dr. Igor Kozak MD, PhD, MAS

Dr. Kozak is a renowned specialist in the whole range of vitreoretinal surgical procedures including pediatric ophthalmic surgery. He undertakes advanced surgical procedures and has pioneered some retinal laser techniques.

Dr. Kozak undertook his medical and ophthalmology training in Slovakia, before a Vitreoretinal Clinical Rotation at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, and Fellowships in corneal immunology, and vitreoretinal and uveitis, in the USA. He has also practiced and researched at leading institutions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He has extensively researched, undertaken clinical trials, published, and lectured around his specialist areas of interest.

Dr. Kozak is Board Certified in Ophthalmology and holds a number of supplementary specialty certificates. He is the recipient of several academic awards and honors, and a member of leading professional bodies in the US, Europe, and Slovakia. In addition to his medical roles, Dr. Kozak has been actively involved in public service programs and education.

Mitchell Brigell occupies the position of Head-Clinical Development & Strategy at Ocuphire Pharma, Inc. Additionally, he formerly held the position of Vice President-Clinical Development at Aerpio Therapeutics, Inc. as well as Executive Director of Translational Medicine, Ophthalmology at Novartis Institutes of BioMedical Research. He also held roles of increasing responsibility at Parke-Davis/Pfizer in Experimental Medicine and Clinical Technologies. He originally joined the pharmaceutical industry as part of the Clinical Development team for Pregabalin (Lyrica). Dr. Brigell spent over a decade in academic medicine at Loyola University and the University of Chicago in the Departments of Neurology, Neuroscience, and Ophthalmology. His area of academic interest focused on electrophysiological and behavioral effects of diseases of the retina and optic nerve. He has published over 70 scientific papers, is a Fellow of the Association of Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and is the Vice-President of the Americas for the International Society for Clinical Electrophysiology of Vision. Dr. Brigell is on the Editorial Board of Translational Vision Science and Technology and Documenta Ophthalmologica. Dr. Brigell received his Ph.D. in physiological psychology from Kansas State University and did his post-doctoral research in visual electrophysiology at Northeastern University, under the guidance of John Armington.
